Is Terrazzo Trendy or Traditional?
Terrazzo has been around for centuries, but lately, it’s been making a bold comeback in modern interiors. So, is it a fleeting trend or a timeless classic? The answer lies in how you use it. Traditional terrazzo—made of marble chips in cement—has roots in Venetian architecture, offering durability and a sophisticated aesthetic. But today’s iterations, with vibrant resin-based mixes and playful color palettes, lean more toward trendy. If you love the look but worry about longevity, opt for classic neutral tones in large-scale applications like floors or countertops.
At Firehouse, we did just that—leaning into neutral tones with a large-scale terrazzo floor. We then pulled colors from the tile to select paint and art, creating a cohesive and timeless look.
Want a fun, modern take? Consider terrazzo-inspired decor, like planters or tabletops, for a lower-commitment way to embrace the style.

Planters for a Quick Spring Pick-Me-Up
Nothing says ‘spring refresh’ quite like a dose of greenery. If your space is feeling a little winter-worn, swapping in new planters is an easy way to bring in color and texture. This season, we’re loving a mix of classic terracotta, modern stoneware, and woven baskets for an organic feel. For an instant pick-me-up, try layering different heights of planters near your front door or grouping a trio on your dining table.

And if you’re working with a tight space? Hanging planters or sleek window boxes are perfect for adding life without clutter. Bonus points for choosing plants with a soft fragrance—think lavender, jasmine, or citrus—for that extra springtime mood boost.

Is Green Shag Carpet Back?
Shag carpet had its moment in the ‘70s, and for many, that’s where it should stay. But, believe it or not, green shag is creeping back into interiors—though not in the way you might expect. Designers are playing with texture and bold color in unexpected ways, and deep green, whether in lush wool rugs or moody velvet upholstery, is having a revival.
At our Indian Mod project, our clients pushed for green carpet, but not for the shag. ⚔️ We are leaning into the monochromatic green tones to complement the orange coming from the wood, similar to how we designed Sweet Flag.

And how about that terrazzo table top?

The key to making green carpet work? Paired with sleek furniture and layered neutrals, it reads as luxe rather than retro. Still unsure? Start small with an accent piece, like a pillow or throw, before diving into a full-room statement.
